Designing Your Blended Course

One of the changes you’ll find in the 2nd edition of Essentials for Blended Learning is the book is divided into two parts. This is so that those who are unfamiliar with the concept of blending can go deep into examples and concepts in Part 1, Understanding Blended Learning, while instructors or designers who are already familiar with blending can more easily jump into the action in Part 2.

Part 2 isn’t just about learning to use technology to blend. Whereas anyone can adopt technology in their teaching, a deliberately designed blend creates a better teaching and learning experience by evaluating learning goals and then choosing learning activities (as well as technologies or environments) that will best achieve the desired outcomes.

Part 2 includes the following chapters:

  • Chapter 5 – Begin Your Blend from Outcomes
  • Chapter 6 – Blending Assessments to Improve Learning
  • Chapter 7 – Blending Learning Activities Online
  • Chapter 8 – Blending Learning Activities Onsite
  • Chapter 9 – Setting Up Your Online Environment
  • Chapter 10 – Ongoing Improvement of Your Blended Course

Some of the online resources and tools referenced in these chapters are available in our Resources & Tools section.
