Course Design Planner Updated!

Essentials for Blended Learning is designed to guide instructors through the process of building a blended or hybrid course, step by step.

A critical component of that process is developing a course outline, based on learning outcomes. Using a course design planner helps you create that outline, lesson by lesson.

The planner referenced in the 2nd edition of the book was useful, but was also very simple. I’ve updated the course design planner template to be a more comprehensive tool for blended course design — or, really, any format of course, including fully online.

Here’s what’s changed:

  • Course info section added to include course title, number, semester, and course-level outcomes / goals
  • Lesson table updated:
    • Includes dates for each lesson
    • Placements for course-level outcome(s) along with lesson-level outcomes
    • Recommends labeling activities with online 🛜 or onsite 🏫 emojis
    • 15 lesson placeholders added to save time (reflecting a typical semester)

I’ve also provided a Microsoft Word format docx of the planner

Make a copy and try it out!
